So with 2015 well underway and the cold weather gradually starting to break, I decided it was time to do some spring cleaning and revamp the Website. For those that visited regularly, I'm sure you'll notice some big changes.
I'd been with Squarespace since the site launched back in 2012 but, decided to rebuild it from scratch in Wix. While I loved the simplicity of Squarespace and the ability to just swap the site template if I wanted to, I didn't feel like I quite had the freedom I do with the Wix layout and interface. There are some features I will miss a little but, I dare say my new host will provide something similar in time and I have developed my own work-arounds anyway in the meantime.
The new format is a lot cleaner and easier to navigate. The old site's menu system had become quite cumbersome due to the amount of articles, guides and reviews I had posted in the past 2.5 years. While I could simply have written everything in a blog like this, I didn't want the information to become buried and people forced to dig through archives to access it. Now the design allows for continued expansion, without it becoming clunky or things disappearing off the bottom of the screen, as some people had pointed out to me in the past. I have more independant and impartial equipment reviews in the pipeline so be sure to check those out.
Last year was quite a fortunate one for me. I saw my work published in a lot of magazines and appear on one of the largest photographic news websites. I also was finally successful in scooping a first place in Digital Photo's POTY (I'd been runner up twice in previous years) and I also was awarded a first place in Professional Photographer's PPOTY in the Family Portraits category and a second place in the Portfolio Of Three. I aim to make 2015 just as rewarding.
If you have any comments or feedback on the new site, I'd love to hear it or if there are any photographic topics I've not covered in articles and guides thus far, drop me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do to help. In the meantime, I wish you all a very happy and productive 2015 too!
